Recent and ongoing work
NKMS Women Leaders: Capacity and Organizational Skills Building
Funded by Global Affairs Canada through Philippine Business for Social Progress (PBSP) under the UpWISE grant stream. WSRC trained 21 NKMS (United Women Workers of Sumifru) officers and leaders in leadership, organizational management, digital skills, public speaking, and advocacy. Educational discussions on gender mainstreaming and general labor standards reached 300 women workers across Davao de Oro. The project also helped build 10+ alliance organizations for NKMS.
Feminist Participatory Action Research (FPAR) — Davao de Oro
Research and advocacy with women workers from seven Sumifru packing plants in Davao de Oro — documenting workplace struggles, impacts of Martial Law, and pandemic realities. Conducted body clock studies showing workers spent an average of nearly 14 hours per day inside plants. Supported anti-contractualization mobilizations, produced IEC materials, and conducted Basic Women Orientation (BWO) in Davao del Norte, Davao de Oro, and Davao City.
Workers' Watch Project
EU-funded project implemented with the Nonoy Librado Development Foundation, Inc. (NLDFi). WSRC handled the gender component — psychosocial intervention and Gender and Development (GAD) trainings for workers in Davao del Norte, Davao de Oro, Davao City, SOCSARGEN, and CARAGA. A Mindanao-wide Psychosocial Intervention Training of Trainers was conducted in 2021, with trained facilitators then delivering community psychosocial activities for children and workers.
Environmental Justice and Campaign Education
Support for SABOKAHAN, an all-women organization of Lumad indigenous communities in Southern Mindanao. Engaged 15 women leaders from four ethnolinguistic communities, reaching 30+ emerging young women leaders. Program addressed exclusion of Lumad women from leadership and the encroachment of extractive industries on ancestral lands. Covered speakership, campaign writing, multimedia advocacy, reproductive health, agroecology, and social media. Sabokahan members became 75% more active; social media following grew 85%; income generation increased 200%.
Women Leaders Capacity Building — NKMS
Under the Women's Rights, Action, and Advocacy Program (WRAAP) of PBSP, WSRC implemented organizational skills building for women leaders of Nagkahiusang Kababayen-ang Mamumuo sa Sumifru. Activities included leadership skills, digital literacy, facilitation, public speaking, alliance-building, and gender mainstreaming. An independent project performance evaluation confirmed all objectives were achieved, with lasting organizational impact on NKMS.
